Freelancers Union Announces Health Care Center

Sarah Horowitz’s Freelancers Union has announced a new venture that could serve as a model for worker-owned health care: a brick and mortar primary care practice. Freelancers Medical will open in Brooklyn, NY on November 5th, and will include doctors, nutritional counseling, yoga, meditation classes and other alternative health care options, and free Wi-Fi in the reception area of the 6,000-square-foot space.
The no-copay practice is open to members of Freelancers Insurance Company, and will be headed up by Dr. Neil Patel. Click here for information on how to apply if you live in New York, and wait for similar models in other cities to pop up (the union already plans to sponsor new nonprofit health care plans in Oregon, New Jersey and New York).
(Judging by the flurry of tweets from uninsured freelancers without health insurance who wish they had an option like this, perhaps you won’t have to wait long.)
